A forum for parents, educators, students, and concerned community members regarding testing and the current state of education in New York State.

Featuring Arielle Chiger– Arielle is a second grade teacher in New Paltz. She has worked in elementary middle school, and as a Literacy Staff Developer in New York City schools. Arielle is the president of the New Paltz Teacher’s Union, and is the proud mother of a 7th grader and 9th grader.

Featuring Tim Farley– Tim and his wife Jessica are the proud parents of four school-aged children. Tim is a Building Principal of an Elementary and Middle School (Grades 4-8) in the Hudson Valley. He has a Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary Education for Earth Science, a Master’s Degree in Special Education (K-12) and a Certificate of Advanced Study in Educational Administration and Supervision. He has been in education for over 23 years and has been a Building Administrator for 16 years. Tim is a member of the New York State Allies for Public Education and has been an outspoken critic of the Regents Reform Agenda.

Featuring Dr. Elizabeth Ten Dyke– Liz is a former high school social studies teacher, middle school vice principal, and central office administrator. She has worked for over 25 years in different urban districts in New York State, starting in Brooklyn back in 1988. Liz is committed to the success of all children, regardless of their race, ethnicity, economic status or learning abilities or disabilities. In addition, Liz is a Cultural Anthropologist. She is studying the education reform resistance movement in New York State, and also speaking out to contribute to the work of protecting schools and communities from federal and corporate control. Liz is firmly convinced that strong, locally controlled public schools are the foundation of our nation’s democracy, and that as citizens we have both the right and responsibility to do everything in our power to protect them.

Featuring Anna Shah, JD– Anna is an attorney and a former litigator. She is the founder of Hudson Valley Parent Educator Initiative (HVPEI), serves on the steering committee of the New York State Allies for Public Education (NYSAPE), blogs at Schools of Thoughts Hudson Valley New York and serves on various policy making committees in her school district. She has written a number of articles and exposes which have been picked up by the press and is frequently consulted on matters concerning education policy. Anna is a Dutchess County public school parent of 2 boys and appears in this forum as a concerned parent.
